Vision 2025 of Psycho-Technical Directorate

 

Key concept and functional areas pertaining to Psycho-Technical Directorate summarized as:

  1. Alignment of aptitude testing with upgradation of technology/ operating practices through continual research, development and upgradation in development of test.

  2. By 2025, operational technology will be highly automatic where the role of safety category staff who are directly involved in operation will gradually become more a 'Monitor' than that of 'Operator'. Hence the corresponding aptitudes will have greater emphasis in measuring Perceptual Speed, Reaction Time, Selective attention. The present format and content of these tests will be bench marked so that highly advanced tests for these aptitudes are developed in simulated, dynamic, Three Dimensional models.

  3. The scope of psychological screening will be much wider than what is at present and include other critical staff viz. PWI, Traffic Inspectors, Signal Inspectors, etc.

  4. The Psycho-Technical Cell will be remodelled and developed as 'Centre for Advanced Psychological Research for Indian Railways personnel'. Its functioning will see a paradigm shift in developing technologies for man-machine interface.

  5. Assessment and matching of human capabilities with job demands.

  6. Designing of work place, work procedures, duly rosters and man-machine interface keeping human limitations in mind.

  7. Extending support to staff working under highly stressful condition by way of counselling, relaxation therapies

  8. Study of communication system combining engineering and human parameter. What should be appropriate modalities of communication? Verbal or non-verbal? Visual, auditory or tactile? Area needing basic research.

  9. Managing men under stress as well as motivating workers for better performance will throw major social psychological challenge for the industry.

  10. Evolve strategies and business model for making the directorate source of income generation. Online test will be developed in-house as knowledge products. Like American Psychological Association (APA) or European countries, Psycho-Technical Directorate of Indian Railways will emerge as business provider (seller) for South-Asian and African Railways.

  11. Integration with training programmes of research institutes like Railway Staff College , IRIEEN and IRISET, etc.

  12. The Centre will emerge as nodal organization for post accident analysis and counselling

  13. To work as a Human Resource Development centre in order to develop 3Cs-Competency, Commitment and Culture for the Rail Industry.
